Best App The Kindle Vs Freda For Reading On PC

Even the thickest PC weighs less than a stack of books, but if you are looking to buy the best reading app for your PC that runs on Windows 10, then it won’t be an easy job.

The trend of reading traditional books is on a decline. Reason being, the rise of electronic devices and reading apps. Amazon Kindle has brought a paradigm shift in the world of reading. Kindle as we all know is an e-reader, which promises smooth and strain-free reading.

Amazon after seeing the success of Kindle launched an application as well by the name of ‘Kindle app’. This app has been brought to the market in order to provide an opportunity for the people who are not interested in buying Kindle e-reader.

But, Kindle app is also getting a tough competition from other apps, a notable app being Freda. Both apps work smoothly on Windows PCs, which is what making people confused as they are not able to make out as to which app to go for.

Both apps are available on the Microsoft Store, and both have been downloaded a countless number of times by PC users. When comparing these two apps briefly, then you will find that Amazon has a vast ecosystem that extends through multiple devices, whereas Freda has the ability to read a wide range of formats from several sources.

Libraries of Content

Amazon Kindle app offers literally a countless number of books, but there is a catch that you may or may not be aware of. When you buy a book from Amazon, then you will get a DRM-protected version, which will restrict the use of that book on Amazon devices and app.

In contrast to Kindle, Freda app is capable of reading content from a wide range of formats, but there is one shortcoming of this app, as it doesn’t have its own dedicated store. If you have got EPUB books in your local library, then you can bring those books onto the Freda app.

Moreover, you get the freedom to download eBooks from a number of websites. Now, coming to the formats that Freda supports, then those are HTML, EPUB, FB2, TXT, and MOBI, so having this app gives you the opportunity to view content from different sources without any issue. But, the only problem that you will have to bear is, jumping around to different stores and sites in order to get the content that you need.

Design & Features

There isn’t much competition in terms of design, as Freda is quite advanced and user-friendly. You can either access it using mouse, trackpad or touch, and you will get a clean feel. Freda works a lot better in Windows 8.1 as if the app was created keeping this particular version of Windows in mind.

Although there wasn’t any problem in accessing it on Windows 10, using it on Windows 8.1 is a much better experience. If you are using a 2-in-1 or a Windows tablet, then Freda will offer you with a much smoother experience, but in case of a desktop or a laptop, where touch facility is not available, there aren’t too many differences in the design of both apps.

Simply putting, Kindle app is more suitable for tablets and smartphones, whereas Freda works in a better way on PCs and laptops. Both apps support cross-device synchronization, but Kindle is going to do it regardless of the OS you are using.

Final Verdict

As both apps have their strong points and shortcomings, but I still feel that Kindle has an edge over Freda because it is a complete app. It offers more a wider library of books compared to Freda.
